A Day In The Life of MES implementation with Kiyano Peeters

Meet Kiyano, life sciences consultant at Sopra Steria Benelux and Validation and Testing Lead at a leading organisation in the pharmaceutical sector. Since joining Sopra Steria in September 2022, Kiyano has been driving the implementation of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) into production, overseeing validation activities, coordinating testing cycles and ensuring compliance with industry standards. It is a role that blends precision, planning and teamwork.

Starting the day
Kiyano begins with a small ritual that sets the tone for everything that follows. Before reaching his desk, he stops for coffee at the social spot in Geel. Once settled, the morning quickly fills with meetings focused on planning, progress updates and team alignment.

Midday reset
Lunch is more than a break. Kiyano and his team take a walk to the restaurant, using the time to catch up informally and recharge before the afternoon’s focused work.

Afternoon priorities
The second half of the day is all about execution. Kiyano leads the validation and testing workstream, checks deliverables and ensures everything stays on track. Before wrapping up, he updates trackers and sets priorities for the next day.

After work
To decompress, Kiyano heads to the gym. It is his way of transitioning out of work mode and resetting for the evening.

Responsibilities and collaboration
Kiyano’s role centres on planning implementation phases, ensuring validation objectives are met and coordinating the team during testing cycles. Working in the same office makes collaboration seamless, with quick discussions and informal problem-solving driving efficiency.

Highlights and lessons
A recent milestone was completing the first test phase of the MES implementation. Reflecting on lessons learned after the cycle strengthened collaboration and paved the way for improvements.

The unexpected side of the job
While much of his work is strategic, Kiyano occasionally tackles repetitive tasks like copy-pasting data in trackers. It is not glamorous, but it keeps the project moving. Over time, he has honed his organisational skills, learning that even the smallest detail can impact overall planning.

Feel-good moments
Team reflection after the first test cycle stands out as a moment of shared success and growth. It was a clear example of how collaboration and reflection can drive progress.

From coffee rituals to milestone achievements, Kiyano proves that success is built on teamwork and precision. His journey is a great example of how passion and structure can go hand in hand.
