Job Description

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Data Scientist specialising in Large Language Models (LLMs) to join our dynamic team in Nieuwegein, Netherlands. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions, bridging the gap between emerging technologies and business needs.

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced machine learning models, with a focus on LLMs and NLP applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve complex business problems using data-driven approaches
  • Conduct research on state-of-the-art LLM techniques and contribute to the development of novel algorithms
  • Preprocess and engineer features from large-scale textual datasets for NLP tasks
  • Optimise and deploy machine learning models in production environments
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance on NLP and LLM projects
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in LLMs and GenAI, sharing insights with the team and clients
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our data science processes and methodologies

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in a data-driven field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on experience in machine learning, with a strong focus on NLP and LLMs
  • Proven track record of implementing machine learning models in production environments
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and experience writing production-ready code
  • Extensive knowledge of LLMs and embeddings (e.g., GPT, BERT) and their applications
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
  • Experience with NLP-specific tools and libraries (e.g., LangChain, HuggingFace, spaCy)
  • Proficiency in working with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Helm, Kubernetes)
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Demonstrated ability to preprocess data and engineer features for NLP tasks
  • Knowledge of model optimization techniques and deployment strategies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a constructive approach to challenges
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Fluency in Dutch and English (both required)
  • Passion for staying up-to-date with the rapidly evolving NLP and LLM landscape
  • Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working in a team environment

At Sopra Steria, we ensure you can do your job with joy and balance. That’s why we offer an attractive and flexible employment benefits package:

  • A permanent contract and a gross monthly salary between €3,000 and €6,000 (based on 40 hours per week). The exact amount depends on your experience and the role;
  • 8% holiday allowance;

  • 8% profit sharing on target (or a fixed OTB amount, depending on the role);
