Smoothing the data traffic flow for the Oosterweelverbinding

What is the Oosterweelverbinding?  

The Oosterweel project is a massive infrastructure initiative by Lantis designed to complete the Antwerp Ring. It aims to improve traffic flow, reduce air pollution, and enhance urban liveability. Moving in and around the city, it is hard to ignore its scale and impact.   

The bottleneck: the scattering of stakeholders   

When a project spans more than ten years, you can bet there’ll be a long list of tools, platforms, and people involved. Information was scattered across SharePoint, BIM 360, ASITE, Relatics, and a sea of documents. The problem? Not everyone had access to the same sources, and so to the full story. As stakeholders came together to make decisions, alignment became difficult. Context got lost. And critical choices got delayed. 

The role Sopra Steria played 

What we needed was clear: a central hub that could gather information and make it accessible to the right people at the right time. To cut through the noise, we designed and built a GenAI-powered orchestration platform tailored to the complexity of Oosterweel.     

Running fully on Microsoft Azure, the platform connects fragmented sources and instantly delivers context-aware answers. Using tools like Copilot Studio, we created platform interactivity. No more digging through endless folders. Need a technical drawing? Our engineer’s contract? Or even the menu of the day at the construction site? Just ask a question and get a precise, AI-generated answer based on traceable sources.   

Behind the screens: Ben’s story  

Ben, Solution Architect on the project, helped shape the platform’s technical direction. “Keeping up with the technology was a challenge, for sure. But it pushed us to stay alert. It was inspiring to apply this fast-evolving, transformative AI to something that directly impacts the public,” he says. “The key to this project,” he adds, “was keeping it simple for users. Even with advanced tech under the hood!”
